Guru nanak ji sahib passed on Gurgadee to Bhai Lehnna Ji even changing his name to Guru ANGAD Ji by matha tekking/passing over the book/kitab of GURBANI compositions that Guru nanak ji recorded in His life time travels. This GURBANI in the form of the POTHI was thus passed from Guru Anagd Ji to Guru Amardass Ji, then to Guru ramdass Ji and finally to Guru Arjun Ji. Since by then this had grown considerably,..."PIO Daddeh da khol dittahah khazannah...." Guru Arjun ji decided to compile it all into one JILD of POTHI SAHIB which was bound in one volume and parkash at Darbar sahib in what we now refer to as Guru Granth Sahib Ji da Pehla parkash.The POTHI SAHIB of course became "GURU" only when formally installed on the Gurgadee by Guru Gobind Singh ji in naded in 1708 after Guru Ji had added in the Gurbani composed by his father Guru Teg Bahadur Ji sahib. This passing over was also called TILAK Launna and this "Tilak" was not a physical marking but passing over of Spiritual Gyaan.
Guru Nanak ji brought forward a Totally NEW revolutionary GYAAN of Gurbani - in which He totally and utterly rejected all the mist and misconceptions that had so surrounded religion that the truth was practically invisible. Guru nanak ji rejected empty rituals like various typoes of threads called janeaus for different classes and castes, various penances for the physical body to inflict pain in flayings, fastings, bloody piercings, hanging upside down on smoking dhunnis, sitting crosslegged for long periods of time, going away to forests and cavesfor meditations, avoiding family and social responsibilities, bathing physical body at teeraths and holy sarovars to attain spiritual merit, concepts of paap punns, concept of Heaven hell swarag narak, concept of high and low caste, concept of god-men and saadhs, sants etc who renounced the world but returned to feed off it as parasites do. The Concept of charan-amrit, bath water, jhooth or left overs of holy god men as holy parsaad for the chelas, sacrificial offerings as holy etc were all totally rejected by the Sikh GURUS who stressed on PRACTICAL LIVING of GURBANI GYAAN. The way to meet the Creator was not through "ceremonies" BUT by practically adopting the TEACHINGS of Gurbani to change their daily LIVES. THIS was what was taught in KARTARPUR where Guru nanak ji held his daily spiritual discourses..Rehrass in the evening ( Charan DHOYEH) is a perfectly normal procedure for FARMERS and ordinary KIRTEE hardworking classes who arrived dusty and dirty from a day of physical labour. Washing the feet is still a normal practise in Punjab Gurdwaras due to the dusty conditions prevalent there while this loses all semblance to practicality when we take the Normal practise of modern Sikhs ..say in the WEST. Here the Sikh arrives from his home freshly bathed, feet clean and all in a car driven straight to the Gurdwara car park. He hardly has any excuse to get 'dust" on his feet and thus most Disapora Gurdawras have no such water pools such as those considered as essential in any Punjab Gurdawra entrance. I am sure Guru Nanak ji placed way more importance on the newly joined SIKHS listening to his MESSAGE and applying it to their lives than to sipping the feet wash/bath water which the DEHDHAREE LOBBY dearly want us to adopt so that their dehs can then gain acceptance as "vehicles of spiritual advancement" ( and their personal enrichment and wealth accumulation from devotee goluck contributions). GURBANI utterly and clearly rejects the DEH as of no consequence in ones spiritual development..our GURU is SHABAD and GYAAN of the Creator. And our Spiritual advancement is not via giving physical pain or penence to the body, bathing it in holy waters, sipping holy waters, touching holy slippers or shoes, but via following Gurbani in our daily lives to change our behaviour from MANMUKHTAA to GURMUKHTAA. This is a PRACTICAL METHOD.
However whatever our GURU SAHIBAANS rejected and consigned to the Rubbish Bin..we Sikhs ran after the Garbage Truck and retrieved as fast as possible. In just a short period of less than 100 years after 1708..we Sikhs took back these rejected materials and first stored them temporarily in our 'store-rooms"..but slowly as time went along we have brought them all out and accorded them place of HONOUR in our homes, our lives, our Gurdwaras. Today we wear "janeaus"..we have strings on our wrists, we spray coloured waters on our clothes, we fast, we drag our bodies around gurdwara steps and around nishan sahib tharras, we bathe in holy waters, we drink holy waters, we eat left overs of so called god men holy men, brahmgyanis, we break coconuts, we install idols in our homes, our cars, we dhoop and joss-stick Guru Pictures, we have small thalis and oil lit deevas for artees. Guru nanak ji Sahib took us by the little finger up the highest Himalays to show us the GRANDEST and most fantastic AARTEE that the CREATOR and His Brahmand carries out 24/7 365 days in and out all over the galaxies and stars...but we rolled down the mountain so fast to grab our small thalees and our tiny oil lamps to do our own little aartees..and that too in the FACE of the GYAAN SURAJ the SGGS. We fail to realise that this oil deeva business is run by the "snake oil merchants"..and its they who will become bankrupt if we stop buying the lamps and oil. The Hindus only had a chunni for their stone devi idol..we progressed from rumallahs to chadras and palkas and complete sets different cloths for winter and summer etc which in front of our very eyes get the briefest of "touch" to SGGs and are then packed away/OFF never to come near our GURU again...but to rot in some god forsaken cupboard or store room under the stairs in the Gurdwara or recycled for resale by unscruplous "religious authorities". With millions of poor people who crave for a single piece of cloth to cover their nakedness..we continue to chharrah tons of rumallahs in an effort to bribe Guru ji to "dhaak our Parrdahs" in this world and the hereafter ?? I wonder what is it that we do that needs DHAKKING !! so badly. Would the GURU who did a Sacha sauda and endured slaps form his father be glad to see his Sikhs do this " You dhakk our poardah- we dhaak yours" type of dealing and wheeling ?? Wouldnt the GURU be happier to see his poor downtrodden and naked brethren clothed and covered ??

The DAY of "religion" was already there....BUT the DHUNDH of misconceptions...was CLOUDING the way...people couldnt see their palms in front of their faces..and were going in CIRCLES..wasting their lives...GURU NANAK JI SAHIB removed the dhundh...revealed the CLEAR BLUE SKY and the HIGHWAY to the CREATOR...free of all encumbrances. A totally Practical easy to follow way..the GURMATT WAY revealed in GURBANI..the way of LOVE and SEHAJ.
OUR GURU is GYAAN...KNOWLEDGE !!! but notice the anomaly..we SIKHS place the least and lowest priority on EDUCATION. Schools and books lose out to Rumallahs, Guru Ka Langgar, marble for Gurdwara floors, Gold for Golden Palkis/Golden domes of Gurdwaras, cloth for Nishan sahib cholas, Kar sewa babas to perform cremations of our handwritten old manuscripts, sggs birs, bulldoze hstoricla heritages etc. EDUCATION is way down the list..if it is there at all...because it has no "PUNN" in our eyes..it has no heaven buying ability...and we are thus morphing into a nation of half past six uneducated youths, drug abusers, unemployed and unemployable, and half past six granthis ragis emerging form deras run by illeterate saadhs...who take in uneducated youths by the hundreds of thousands and transform them into " BRANDED" amritdharees that belong to their dera and not the Sikh Nation- branded as Taksali Bhinderah amritdharee, Baru sahib Amrtidharee, rarrehwallah amritdharee, Dhadrianwallah amritdharee, Akj amritdharee, Beas Sikh, namdharee sikh, Nirankari sikh, Noormehliah Sikh , Sehajdharee sikhs etc etc and now ravidassi sikh kabir panthi sikh..with Namdev sikh..Bhagat dhanna Sikh.etc on the way in the near future..Its my ferevent wish that SIKHS of Guru Khalsa Panth get together and pechharr the backward divisive forces dragging us backward into brahminical practises karam kaands empty rituals that offer no spiritual benefits except a false sense of spiritual spirituality holier than thou attitude. Lets give the Khandey batte Dee Pahul and the Sri Guru granth sahib the satikaar deserved and place our fallen dastaar back on our heads and walk proudly on the world stage as Guru gobind Singh ji intended.
